About Moana Waterman
Our Mission
Moana Waterman designs and manufactures the highest-performance carbon fiber fin blades for freediving and spearfishing. We're committed to engineering excellence, uncompromising quality, and creating products that outperform in the world's toughest diving conditions.
The Moana Story
Since 2011, Moana has been making some of the best carbon fiber fin blades for freediving and spearfishing. What started as JD Neiman's mission to solve real problems in fin design has evolved into the trusted choice of recreational divers as well as professionals worldwide.
JD founded Moana to address the inherent weak spots that existed on most carbon fins on the market—particularly where stress concentrations in the weave cause breaks and failures. Rather than settle for conventional solutions, he engineered his way past these limitations, developing an innovative multi-axial carbon fiber design that eliminated the stress points plaguing traditional fins. His meticulous approach to design and material science created fins that were not just stronger, but more efficient and responsive.
The brand gained visibility at the Blue Wild Ocean Adventure Expo, where JD's technical approach and product quality earned the respect of the freediving community. He designed every blade with precision and purpose, even tailoring flex patterns and carbon weaves for specific footpocket systems. Working part-time while perfecting his craft, JD created products that spoke for themselves—thousands of divers worldwide trusted Moana fins for their most demanding expeditions.
What Sets Us Apart
Our engineering is different—and it shows.
Advanced Materials: Moana blades feature an industry-first multi-axial design resulting in reduced torsion and improved efficiency, constructed from 100% aerospace grade carbon fiber pre-preg materials.
Superior Construction: Our latest generation features a unique monocoque core of pure carbon fiber with no woven fabric except the cosmetic layer. This eliminates stress points where weaves and crimps cause stress multiplication and delamination—the root cause of fin failure in conventional designs.
Purpose-Built Design: Every product is engineered with the waterman's experience in mind. Our approach recognizes that performance depends on how equipment works together and integrates with your technique.
Proven Durability: Moana offers a 3-year warranty on all carbon fiber products—a commitment that reflects our confidence in material quality and manufacturing precision.
Made in Fort Lauderdale
All Moana fin blades are manufactured in-house at our Fort Lauderdale facility using aerospace-grade composite materials. Our custom-built equipment and precision CNC machinery enable us to maintain the exact tolerances and quality standards that define Moana performance. From material layup to final finishing, we control every step of production to ensure consistent excellence in every blade that leaves our shop.
Our Product Line
Moana has grown into a complete water lifestyle brand. Beyond our legendary carbon fiber fin blades, we now offer footpockets, masks, snorkels, and accessories—all engineered with the same commitment to performance and quality. Whether you're freediving, spearfishing, or enjoying the water, our integrated product line is designed to work together seamlessly, giving you confidence in every dive.
Commitment to Availability
For several years, demand for Moana fins exceeded our production capacity. To ensure consistent availability and continued innovation, Headhunter Spearfishing acquired Moana in 2018. This partnership brought manufacturing infrastructure and supply chain expertise while preserving the technical excellence and design philosophy that made Moana special. We're now able to serve our global customer base reliably while advancing our product line.
Trust from the Community
Moana fins are trusted by freediving instructors, spearfishing competitors, and serious watermen worldwide. Our reputation is built on consistent performance, honest engineering, and a commitment to making the best fin blades available—not the cheapest.
